At a time when computer technology is advancing at a breakneck pace and when software developers are glibly hawking their wares as having artificial intelligence, the inevitable question has begun to take on a certain urgency: Can a computer think? Really think?

Computer is what we as people make them. We are the true thinkers, as we instill our knowledge into a program that we send to a computer to act out. The ultimate question is how do we control people to program good things to instill into these machines?

visionaries, geniuses...oh what a thin line we thread as the world becomes ever so dependent on computers and the developement of artificial intellingence. With all of our major advancements coming within the last 150 years or so, who knows where computer technology and it's impact mankind we'll be by the year 2100, one can only imagine...I have to come late
A being can think because it can respond to any random situation. A human's brain allows it to do anything it wants. Even artificial intelligence can only think the thoughts that were built into it.
A computer can think only if you tell it how to think so there fore only if you tell a computer to think is when it will think.

I dont know that computer can think or not but it does help us alot of things in the living. Computer helping us to do alot of work that make our life easier. For examlple
For students: Microsoft word, help us to do our documents, essay, paper ....that relate to computer too...

can a computer really think mmmmm? i think computers do think because they tend do do things on there own even though u program them to they do it own there own without your consent.
Computer are like babies, they can't do things on there own unless you tell them how to do it. sooner or later they will be able to do things on there own and evolve to the point that they can think on there own. This could be a good thing or a bad thing. If you looked at sci-fi movie you will understand. Movie such as I,Robot or the Terminator series. We dont know what they're capable of, but until that day comes when a computer can think on its own, It will just be a another tool used for mankind.
No, computers cannot think on their own. A computer does not have the ability to control an action that the user makes of it. We as the operator of the computer can make a choice of keeping our computers in tip top shape or keep putrid conditions.
This is just opinion. Everyone has their own.
